Introduction

The birthstone for the month of March is the Aquamarine. Therefore it makes a good stone for those of you who are born in the month of March.

The name is derived from the words "aqua" and "mare" meaning sea water.

This stone is part of the beryl family. The stone color ranges from slight icy blue to pastel greenish blue. These stones are found mainly in Brazil, but are also found at other places around the world such as Nigeria, Madagascar, Mozambique and Zambia.

Benefits

The Aquamarine was said to be a lucky stone for sailors, since it ensured a safe journey by water. This stone was also supposed to renew married love. It was also believed that this stone ensured a long and happy married life.

The Egyptians, the Romans and the Greeks placed great value on the powers of this stone. They said that the stone invoked the water spirits, ensuring the safe journey by sea.

This stone is considered to be a symbol of everlasting youth and therefore was quite prized. It was also said to contain magical and healing properties.

Soothsayers and Fortune Tellers used this stone as the source of their power. The stone is said to cause good sleep and cure eye trouble.

Since the aquamarine resembles the ocean, it was said to give the wearer a purity of body and spirit.

Buying an Aquamarine

This stone is available in a Cabochon form or as a cut stone. The clarity is very important in a cut stone. With a cut stone, you can hold the stone up in natural light and slightly turn it to see the hint of color in it.

You can wear this stone as a pendant or in a ring. Wear it close to the Heart Chakra or on your ring finger.

Charging your Aquamarine

You can charge the stone, by keeping it overnight in the moonlight. The light of the Full Moon is the best.

To make sure that the stone gives you all the best of its properties, wash it, and then let it dry in the moonlight.

Before wearing it, hold it in your hands, close to your heart chakra and imagine a white light emanating from it which merges with the white light of your heart chakra. In your mind, tell the stone to give you its best properties.

When you feel that the stone has understood you, open your eyes, and wear it.

Caring for your Aquamarine

The Aquamarine is quite a strong stone. You can keep the stone clean by washing it with a mild soap. You can use a toothbrush to clean behind the stone. However, don't wash the stone everyday.
